BMW Start Playing "Carbon Fiber" in 2013

BMW intends to become the first auto manufacturer to begin production of carbon fiber components in large volumes. BMW cars with carbon fiber components is planned to start roaming the streets as soon as possible in 2013 through an electric car I3.

BMW Start Playing "Carbon Fiber"
In recent years, the cost and time of increasingly reduced carbon fiber. For example, supercar McLaren MP4-12C can be produced with a faster time also at a lower cost than the McLaren F1 1994 with equivalent performance.

The cheapening of the cost of production of carbon fiber makes BMW's interested to take advantage of the regular production car. Last year BMW has partnered with German SGL Group to produce a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (carbon fiber reinforced plastic).

Another fact is, one pound of carbon fiber material is currently equivalent to a third of the cost required for carbon-fiber roof panel used on the BMW M3 CSL Limited Edition.

Because the suppressor factor costs through economies of scale is now more convenient to create carbon fiber components than in the heyday of CSL in 2004.

The process, called resin transfer molding is used to form the carbon component. Braided carbon fiber was placed in a mold and then resin is injected with high pressure and temperature. The duration of the process is now only less than 10 minutes.

As a result, the cost of making stronger material is now cheaper than ever produced before. It seems that BMW will not be the last car manufacturers that will use carbon fiber throughout the model range. We'll wait. LATEST CAR NEWS
